Car Key Replacement

Lost, Stolen or Damaged Car Keys — Replaced at Your Location

A replacement car key isn't just a new key blank — it has to be cut to the vehicle's exact code and then paired to the car's immobiliser system before the engine will start. I work from the vehicle's VIN and manufacturer security data to cut a new transponder key or smart key on site, whether it's a standard blade, a laser-cut key, or a proximity fob for keyless entry.

This covers everything from a single lost key to a full all-keys-lost situation, where every existing key has to be deleted from the immobiliser memory so a lost or stolen key can never start the vehicle again. Most replacement keys are cut, programmed and tested within an hour; occasionally a rare or discontinued key has to be sourced through the manufacturer's dealer network before I can programme it — I'll tell you upfront if yours is one.

What's Included

  • All-keys-lost jobs, from the VIN alone
  • Transponder, laser-cut and smart keys
  • Old key deleted from the immobiliser
  • Tested and confirmed before I leave

Car Key Programming

Transponder & Immobiliser Programming for New and Existing Keys

Programming is the step that turns a correctly cut key into one the car will actually accept. Every modern vehicle uses an immobiliser or ECU-linked security system that checks for a matching transponder chip or rolling code before allowing the engine to start — without that step, even a perfectly cut key is just a shaped piece of metal.

Using professional diagnostic equipment connected through the vehicle's OBD port, I read the car's security system, add the new key, and where needed reset the immobiliser or re-synchronise a remote key fob's rolling code. This applies whether you've had a new key cut elsewhere, bought a second-hand key online, or need an existing key reprogrammed after other work on the vehicle.

What's Included

  • Transponder & smart key programming
  • Immobiliser reset via the OBD port
  • Remote fob re-sync (rolling code)
  • Works alongside keys cut elsewhere

Spare Car Keys

A Second Key, Cut and Programmed While Your Original Still Works

The cheapest car key you'll ever buy is a spare cut before you need it. A duplicate transponder or smart key is cut from your existing key or the vehicle's data and added to the immobiliser as an additional authorised key — your original keeps working exactly as before.

It's a straightforward job with no all-keys-lost complications, which usually means a faster appointment and a lower price than emergency replacement. Worth doing if you're down to a single key, handing a car to a second driver, or simply don't want to find out the hard way what a lockout costs.

What's Included

  • Cut from your existing key or the VIN
  • Added as an extra authorised key
  • Original key unaffected
  • Cheaper and faster than emergency replacement

Emergency Vehicle Lockout

Keys Locked In? Non-Destructive Entry, Typically in 30 Minutes

Keys locked inside, engine running, a child or pet in the car — this is the callout that can't wait. I carry the tools to gain entry through the door, boot or window seal without forcing a panel or breaking glass, using air wedges and long-reach tools matched to the vehicle's central locking mechanism.

Priority response means this callout jumps the queue: typically with you in about 30 minutes anywhere across Liverpool and Merseyside, day or night. Once you're back in, if the keys themselves are the problem — lost, snapped, or simply not on you — I can move straight into a replacement or key-cutting job on the same visit.

What's Included

  • Priority response, ~30 minutes typical
  • No damage to doors, boot or windows
  • Covers central locking & manual locks
  • Can lead straight into a key job if needed

No damage, guaranteed

Non-Destructive Entry

Specialist Picks & Decoder Tools — Every Entry, Every Time

"Non-destructive" is the method behind every lockout and access job I do, not a separate add-on. Rather than forcing a lock or breaking glass, I use Lishi picks, decoder tools and the wedge-and-rod technique appropriate to the vehicle's specific lock mechanism — reading the pins or bypassing the latch without damaging either.

This matters most on newer vehicles with anti-theft locking systems and high-security cylinders, where the wrong tool can damage components that cost far more than the callout itself. It's also the standard I hold myself to on every job, not just emergency entries — your paint, glass and locks are left exactly as they were.

What's Included

  • Lishi picks & decoder tools
  • No drilling, no forced panels
  • Suited to high-security lock cylinders
  • The standard for every job, not an upsell

Broken Car Key Repairs

Snapped Blade or Key Stuck in the Ignition Barrel — Extracted On Site

A key that's snapped at the blade, sheared at the head, or wedged solid in the ignition barrel doesn't automatically mean a full replacement. Using specialist extraction tools I can remove the broken piece from the lock or barrel without damaging the mechanism, then assess whether the existing key head and electronics can be re-housed onto a new blade.

Where the transponder chip or remote electronics inside the key head are still intact, re-housing is faster and considerably cheaper than cutting and programming an entirely new key from scratch. If the key's beyond saving, I move straight into replacement using the same visit.

What's Included

  • Broken blade or key-head extraction
  • Ignition barrel and door lock clearance
  • Re-housing salvageable electronics
  • Straight into replacement if needed

Key Fob Repairs

Dead Buttons, Lost Range or Water Damage — Repaired & Re-Synced

A key fob that's stopped responding is rarely the whole key failing — it's usually a flat internal battery, a worn button membrane, a cracked circuit board track, or water damage to the electronics. I can diagnose and repair most of these on site rather than requiring a full smart-key replacement.

Once repaired, the fob is re-synced to the vehicle's receiver so the remote locking, keyless entry and rolling code all function correctly again — a fraction of the cost of a dealer replacing the whole unit.

What's Included

  • Battery, button & circuit-board repair
  • Water-damage diagnosis
  • Re-sync to the vehicle after repair
  • Usually cheaper than a full fob replacement

Car Key Cutting

Laser-Cut and Standard Keys, Cut to Code While You Wait

Not every job needs programming — sometimes it's simply a physical key that needs cutting, whether that's a modern laser-cut blade, a dimple key, a Tibbe-style key, or an older standard blade. I cut to the manufacturer's code or copy an existing key precisely, in the van, while you wait.

This is the physical half of a full key job — pair it with programming if the vehicle also needs the new key paired to its immobiliser, or use it alone for keys that don't require electronic pairing, like older vehicles or secondary keys such as glovebox or fuel-cap keys.

What's Included

  • Laser-cut, dimple & standard blades
  • Cut to code or copied from an original
  • Done in the van, while you wait
  • Combine with programming if needed

Services FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book, or can I just call?

Just call — 07731 544220, 24/7. Most jobs are same-day; emergencies are typically with you in about 30 minutes.

Is the price on this page final?

It's a starting point. The exact price depends on your specific vehicle, key type and whether programming or an immobiliser reset is needed — I always confirm the full figure on the phone before I travel. No call-out fee, no VAT.

Can you do more than one service in the same visit?

Often, yes — for example cutting a spare key while I'm already there for a lockout, or moving from entry straight into key replacement. Mention it when you call and I'll factor it into the quote.

What's the difference between key cutting and key programming?

Cutting shapes the physical key to the correct code; programming pairs that key's transponder chip to the vehicle's immobiliser so the engine will actually start. Many jobs need both — some, like a spare glovebox key, only need cutting.

What if my vehicle isn't covered by a listed service?

Call and describe it — most jobs fall under one of these eight services even if the wording doesn't match exactly. I'll tell you honestly if it's not one I can help with.
